Blog Assignment # -1 : Introduction

Email: pat12ic1c@gmail.com

Class Year: 2011 (5th year senior)

Reason for taking the course:

It is my aim to explore as many potentialities for work in the field of computer science before actually making a foray into the real world. I don't yet know what it is that I hope to pursue with my degree. I chose CHI because it represents a fusion of human interpersonal psychology and computer science. I find the nuances of being a human fascinating.

Experience brought to the class:

Little aside from my basic preparation at A&M and a personal interest in studying people.

In 10 years:

I hope to be doing something that I cannot predict from my current standpoint. Research might be nice, but I wholly believe in the possibility that I may not be working as a computer scientist in 10 years. I have other academic and more romantic interests that I may pursue.

The next big thing in CS:

I can't say what form the development will take, but I expect groundbreaking developments in the fields of computation biology and chemistry relatively soon. I don't know how strongly you would categorize that as computer science, but we already are seeing rapid improvements in our ability to synthesize the components of life. On the other hand, a commercially available quantum computer was recently released, and all sorts of issues will arise if RSA becomes insecure.

If I could travel back in time:

I suppose I would meet up with Leonardo da Vinci. Who wouldn't want to pick the brain of the quintessential Renaissance Man?

Favorite style of shoes:

Not really a topic of concern for me, but I do like suede saddle shoes, they're just plain suave.

If I could be fluent in any foreign language:

My practicality would get the best of me and I'd choose Chinese. No problem getting a job anywhere if you're fluent in Mandarin.

Interesting facts:

I enjoy camping and when it's not so hot I ride one of the probably few Triumph's in town.

1 comment:

  1. Triumph. Nice. I ride a Rebel, but Triumph's were always my favorite. (But no riding until it is again <100 degrees out.)
